Isaiah “Josh” Fidler, DVM, PhD, passed away on May 8, 2020, at his home in Houston, TX, following a long illness. Dr. Fidler was a long-time faculty member at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and was a long-time member of the American Society for Investigative Pathology (ASIP). His research program was exceptional and he received numerous awards during his career, including the ASIP Gold-Headed Cane Award in 2016.

Isaiah “Josh” Fidler, D.V.M., Ph.D., 1936-2020Isaiah “Josh” Fidler, D.V.M., Ph.D., passed away on May 8, 2020, at his home in Houston following a long illness.Dr. Fidler was born in Jerusalem on Dec. 4, 1936 to Shoshana Stern and Pinchas Fidler. His father, a world renown soccer player, died in Israel’s war of independence in 1948.

He took on the mystery of metastasis. Now he’s taking on brain cancer.

From his days as the head of Metastasis Biology at the National Cancer Institute, to his current work at MD Anderson exploring new therapeutic approaches to challenging diseases such as brain cancer, his name has been heavily imprinted on the timeline of “firsts” in the quest to understand how cancer spreads.
