Arul Chinnaiyan, MD, PhD, S. P. Hicks Endowed Professor of Pathology and Professor of Urology at the University of Michigan, was honored with the Science of Oncology Award for facilitating the delivery of precision medicine and advancing the field of cancer genomics and functional biology. Dr. Chinnaiyan will deliver an accompanying lecture during the 2021 ASCO Annual Meeting to continue on an established path of cancer discovery. During his lecture, Dr. Chinnaiyan will reflect on how his early discoveries of gene fusions in common solid tumors have evolved into precision oncology-based approaches and novel ways of therapeutically targeting these key genetic alterations.
Researchers, patient advocates, and global oncology leaders who have worked to reshape cancer care around the world are among the recipients of the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Special Awards—the society’s highest honors—and the Women Who Conquer Cancer Mentorship Awards from Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation.
